The Most Haunted Places in the UK | KT History

From castles and abbeys to pubs and moors, they say these locations are home to ghosts, spirits and legends that will send a chill down your spine. But these are only a few of the UK’s most haunted places, and I make no promises about whether you’ll encounter the ghosts said to haunt there if you visit.

Where have you visited that’s reportedly haunted, and did you witness anything?

  1. Pendle Hill, Lancashire
This hill is famous for its connection to the Pendle witch trials of 1612, where they executed 12 people accused of witchcraft. Some say the spirits of the witches still haunt the hill, as well as other paranormal phenomena such as strange lights, noises and apparitions.
  2. Tower of London
This historic fortress has witnessed many executions, murders and tortures over the centuries. And is apparently one of the most haunted places in London. Some ghostly encounters include Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey, Thomas Becket and even a bear that was once kept in the menagerie.
  3. Ancient Ram Inn, Wotton-Under-Edge, Gloucestershire
This 12th-century inn is considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in Britain, with over 20 regular ghosts. Built on a former pagan burial ground, it is supposed to be rife with demonic activity, poltergeists, and apparitions. Some ghosts include a witch burned at the stake, a murdered child, and a high priestess.
  4. Berry Pomeroy Castle, Devon
Two female ghosts: the White Lady and the Blue Lady supposedly haunt this ruined castle. The White Lady is believed to be Margaret Pomeroy, imprisoned and starved to death by her jealous sister Eleanor in the 16th century. The Blue Lady is thought to be the daughter of a Norman lord, raped by her father before giving birth to a child that he killed. She lures visitors to her tower, where they fall to their death.
  5. The Red Lion, Avebury, Wiltshire
Found in the middle of a Neolithic stone circle, which is said to have mystical powers. Several ghosts haunt the pub, including a woman named Florrie, killed by her husband when he found out she was having an affair with a soldier. Visitors often see her wearing a grey dress and carrying a bunch of flowers. (As seen in Most Haunted Season 1 Episode 3.)
