I was not expecting to encounter Affleck and Damon on Netflix last night, but having seen all the trailers and chat about The Rip I couldn’t resist pressing play and staying up past bedtime to watch (shhh, I go to bed early to read and make sure I get my eight hours).I’ve heard this movie was made exclusively for Netflix under a deal that could shift how cast and crew get paid. I don’t know the full details, so I won’t wax lyrical about it here, but if what I’m hearing is accurate, it suggests the changes everyone’s been hoping for in the industry are finally starting to land.

Starring Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity, Suburbicon). Ben Affleck (The Accountant, The Justice League -damn, he makes a good Batman). Steven Yeun (Beef, Nope). Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another, Coming 2 America). Catalina Sandino Moreno (Ballerina, From). And Sasha Calle (The Flash, On Swift Horses).
A group of Miami cops discovers a stash of millions in cash, leading to distrust as outsiders learn about the huge seizure, making them question who to rely on.
The Rip Review Conclusion
Watching it again!: Just the way it ended made me feel the need to go back and watch it again, to watch all those things he said he did and see if I could spot more. Gritty but not super fast paced, this movie held my attention and had me wondering about so many things. There was a feel of a TV series, shots held for longer than expected so you really got to see them (even if you didn’t necessarily know why you were being given extra time in the moment), and a lot of interesting decisions. I really enjoyed this one, but with these two in it, that was inevitable.

Writer, reviewer, and occasional chaos-collector -the kind who laughs through the plot twists and finds magic in the strange corners of storytelling. I explore films, stories, and the wonderfully weird… and yes, moths are still my sworn enemies.
