The Fear Index -erm…huh? | KT Review

The Fear Index trailer had me intrigued so, as per usual, I waited impatiently for release day. Grabbed my coffee and snacks (the essentials) and got comfy. I’d like to say I watched it all in one day but life got in the way and it took me three. And I’m not sure if it would have been better all in one sitting or not because for all it’s clever twists and turns, I didn’t find it that engrossing and picked up my phone way too many times when I was watching -which meant I probably missed important bits.

The Fear Index

Based on the novel of the same name by Robert Harris, former CERN scientist, Dr Alex Hoffman, experiences the worst 24 hours of his life after he is mysteriously gifted a 1st edition book he’s always wanted. Now a wall street tycoon, he and his business partner are launching an AI system that exploits fear, in the hope of getting investors. Unfortunately, the day does not go as planned and strange things start happening to Dr Alex Hoffman which increasingly infuriates his business partner. Seemingly at odd with everything and everyone, Dr Hoffman races to figure out what’s happening and who has it in for him.

Starring Josh Hartnett (30 Days of Night, Wrath of Man), Arsher Ali (Line of Duty, The Ritual), Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzie, Landscapers), Grégory Montel (Rebecca, Call My Agent!), Aïssa Maïga (The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Above the Sky), and Jerry Killick (Second Spring, Monkey Sandwich).

Review Conclusion

I might watch another season, if there was going to be one: I felt like I didn’t quite get this series, as if I was always missing something, and yet I couldn’t stop watching to find out what was going on. And when I did it made sense but not until then. Except that last little bit, whilst an understandable addition, just didn’t make sense for me in terms of logic (Man, I hate this trying to tell you stuff without telling you stuff thing). It was enjoyable (despite reaching for my phone a few times), I wanted to know what was going on. I wanted him to figure out the problems these inexplicable events were having on his relationships. I wanted there to be a logical explanation. I think what I’m saying is, it was good but it wasn’t enough. I wanted it to be more, to give more, to ask more.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

As for what I was eating and drinking, mostly coffee. I had big soup and bread, bag of Love Corn (which is super yummy by the way), and some Vimto bonbons.
