Sorting Books, Writing Long Undead, Overwhelm | KT Writes

The last few weeks have been a little much. Writing has barely happened, and without something to read I would never have had any escape from the chaos meandering through my mind. But this morning I woke up at 5:30 am with a brain full of ideas.

Sorting Books for DustySpinesCo

I had this idea a while ago, to sort through my books and collect at least 100 books to sell. I found about 30, but already hunting for more. And this morning, I spent some time taking pictures and adding books to my eBay shop. I wanted to see if it would be possible to make money from pre-loved books, perhaps enough to make it a full-time thing instead of a side hustle. When I had the idea, I set up the Instagram and a Substack (that fizzled out fairly quickly), but it didn’t occur to me at the time that it could be part of my KT accounts -connected but not connected. I love books, but I can’t keep all of them because I have limited bookshelf space, and most shelves already have multiple rows of books. So some need rehoming. And I am more than willing to spend time in charity shops hunting for more.

So, if you fancy seeing if there’s anything you might wanna read in my little selection of pre-loved books, head over to DustySpinesCo on eBay I’ll be adding more as time allows. However, I’m only posting to the UK at the moment.

Writing Long Undead – Update

The manuscript is rather infuriating at the moment, I’ve written about 97K words and thought it finished but when I read it back through, I realised the final third had somehow slipped into an action plot instead of the emotional one that fueled the rest of Long Undead. So, I have gone back and re-plotted, made copious notes and decisions about how to progress. But I really think I need the whole thing printed out (without that final third) to make notes on where those changes need to be and what needs to happen so I can get on with it.

Trouble is my printer doesn’t work, so I’m now faced with the dilemma of either buying a new one (preferably one that doesn’t require a subscription to ink), buying a stack of paper and using the work printer whilst no one is looking, or bribing someone to do it for me on their printer. I know I should get a new printer, but it’s so hard to choose! And I may be sort of hoping that selling books on DustySpinesCo might pay for it.

When there’s so much going on…

…you wanna curl up in a corner and hide from the world. Obviously, with a large mug of coffee and a good book. But sometimes life gets questionable, all the things that are expected, all the cages we’re trapped in. And so many things going on that you start to wonder what you actually want from your existence. Which always seems to get overshadowed by what you have to do. So, I’m going to spend tomorrow curled up on the sofa, and hope the rain puts in an appearance so I can gaze at it running down the window, before the new week starts. And the rest of today, getting those chores done, a bit of work on Long Undead, and perhaps more books up on DustySpinesCo -it would be nice to spend my days writing, in a cottage by the sea, with a nice healthy pre-loved book business on the side. Might as well take the first steps towards it, it won’t happen if I don’t try.
