The lull in series and movie news over the last few months, it’s nice to see the promise of new Dexter, filming on The Harder They Fall resuming (if temporarily stalled), and news about new series of shows we love in the works. So here are the things that perked my interest this month and that I will be keeping an eye on for future developments.
Dexter is returning for a limited run season, with Michael C Hall returning as our favourite donut eating serial killer. Some think that the finale didn’t do the series justice and this new season gives the show a chance to go out with a bang. What has Dexter been up to, what is his new life like, how many bad guys has he dealt with, and just how is he getting rid of the bodies now. What we know so far:
- Michael C. Hall will be returning as Dexter
- The season will not be set in Miami, everything that happened in the previous seasons happened
- Only ten episodes
- Clyde Philips returning as executive producer
So many questions. Can’t wait.
With the ending of season 2 indicating a darker turn for Joe, his new life in the suburbs has a slight Dexter feel to me. And there’s that questionable relationship with Love and how her character will expand and perhaps influence Joe’s choices.
- Ten episodes
- Coming to our screens in 2021
- The 3rd instalment of the book is already complete if you want a heads up on what you might see in the series -released 6th April 2021
- Joe and Love will return
- Travis Van Winkle and Shalita Grant will join the show for season three, playing a Momfluencer and a Master of Self-Optimisation.
And in other New News…
New horror movie to be directed by the producer of Parasite, Deon Taylor, is a remake of Vietnamese hit The Housemaid. A Gothic Horror-Thriller that will see the Vietnamese housemaid on a plantation who causes the ghost of the plantation owners dead wife to rise from the grave. However, we are unlikely to see this movie before 2022 as production is set to start in the early part of 2021.
The Housemaid already had one Vietnamese remake which modernized the original Korean horror movie classic.
50 Cent & Eli Roth Colab
The pair are partnering on a three-picture deal that they hope will elevate horror to a new level, going where others are too afraid to venture. A sentiment which fills me with both fear and excitement. I’m a fan of Eli Roth movies and hope that these steps to elevate horror don’t get him stuck between floors.
The Harder They Fall
This new western from Netflix stars Idris Elba, Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, and Regina King. And is about a man who learns that the man who killed his parents is being released from prison and he intends to exact his revenge.
Recently the New Mexico shoot has had to suspend filming due to Covid-19 positive tests amongst the crew. There is no news yet as to when filming will resume.
Netflix’s moves into westerns like Godless, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and The Highwaymen have been well received. It’s good to see new, well written and executed series and movies in a genre that I will always love to watch. I will be eagerly anticipating this latest film.
