Unsolved Missing Person: Maura Murray

A stand out student from Hanson, MA, Maura went missing on February 9th, 2004, after her car crashed on Rt. 112 Haverhill, NH. Maura was born in 1982 and grew up in Hanson, Massachusetts.

On the day she went missing, she submitted her homework electronically and emailed her professor to let them know she would be missing classes for the week, before calling a condominium in Bartlett, NH, and packing a bag. She withdrew money before leaving campus, and bought alcohol.

She then drove to New Hampshire.

The police received a call at 7:27pm about an accident, a car was stuck in a ditch. They received a second call at 7:42pm from a bus driver who had spoken to Maura and offered her help. By the time the police arrived, Maura was gone. A search was done of the roads in the area but Maura was not found. There are no known sightings of Maura from the time the bus driver spoke to her.

Missing Disney Cruise Ship Worker: Rebecca Coriam

Rebecca had her dream job working with children on board the Disney Wonder when she went missing in 2011. Very little is known about her disappearance, the day before she was reported missing she was seen wearing someone else’s clothing and spoke to a friend who said she was distressed. CCTV seems to corroborate this.

An initial search of the cruise ship was undertaken, and the ship continued on to it’s Mexican destination. The coastguard was notified to search the area of ocean but because the cruise ship was in international waters when Rebecca disappeared, the Mexican’s did not carry out the investigation.

Very little of what could be considered evidence had been taken away. Her torn, stained clothes remained in her cabin as well as her laptop. Only six crew members were questioned and not one passenger.

Disney Cruises have always maintained that Rebecca was swept overboard, however, alternate theories could also be likely. One theory suggests she had a threesome with other crew members and was so distressed by the event that she threw herself overboard. But one theory suggests that she was sexually assaulted and killed, Rebecca’s friends having told the parents that she had been worried about sexual assault and rape whilst on board. And in 2015 Chester MP Chris Matheson said he believed there’s sufficient evidence to indicate a crime had taken place.

Grand Canyon Disappearance: Floyd Roberts III

A backpacking adventure took a devastating turn on June 17th, 2016, when Floyd Roberts III took a different route to his companions, father and daughter, Ned and Madeleine Bryant. Their 9 day planned hike would take them to Separation Canyon. But as they reached a small hill on day one, Ned and Madeleine chose to go over it whilst Floyd chose to go around it, heading towards the river. His route should have been the quicker of the two.

Helicopters and ground search teams could not locate him in the extremely remote and rugged landscape during their six-day search. Floyd Roberts III disappearance remains a mystery.

A Case of Amnesia?: Patricia Meehan

Driving on the wrong side of the road near Circle, Montana, the car nearly hit a car head-on but the collision was avoided, only to be followed by a collision with a second car. The driver of the vehicle that caused the collision, Patricia Meehan, emerged from the darkness as if she were a bystander as if she had not been in the collision herself. Patricia said nothing before disappearing into the night on April 20th, 1989.

When police arrived on the scene, they learned whose car it was and a five-day search for Patricia began but no trace was found. Over a hundred people have reported seeing Patricia since the incident, and she was seen at a number of truck stops between Montana and Seattle but never stayed in any place long enough for the authorities to catch up with her.

Whilst amnesia is suspected, her family say she was also suffering from low moods before the accident. Aged 38 when she went missing, she would be 70 now.

Brianna Maitland

Driving her pale green 1985 Oldsmobile, on March 19th, 2004, Brianna Maitland went to her shift at the Black Lantern Inn. Her co-workers say she left between 11:30 pm and midnight. She left a note with her friend Jillian who she was staying with to let her know she was off to work. But when Brianna didn’t make it home that night, Jillian thought she had gone to stay with her parents. It would take three days before it became obvious she wasn’t at her parents, her parents filed a missing person report.

The police had received an earlier report on the 20th of March about a pale green Oldsmobile backed into an abandoned Dutch barn a mile from the Black Lantern Inn. They found two uncashed paycheques, half-eaten takeout, migraine medicine, Brianna’s driving license, contacts, and clothes. They also found a fleece, broken necklace, loose change, and a water bottle outside of the car.

Tips and information were followed up on but no arrests were made, and although footage of a possible sighting at a casino in Atlantic city the woman could not be identified as Brianna. In 2016 detectives revealed that they had recovered DNA from Brianna’s car but the results have never been shared, a few months later the Dutch barn burnt to the ground. When Brianna went missing in 2004 she was 17, she’d be 32 now.
