John Carpenter’s The Ward | KT Review

When John Carpenter says jump, you say thank you and go change your pants

The Ward is a bit of an oldy now but recently added to Prime and as it’s a John Carpenter movie, I couldn’t help myself. Do you remember when all the main characters wore high waisted jeans and white trainers? Much less fussy and distracting, all about the character and the story. Simple and easy to run away in.

The Ward

After being captured by the police for burning down a farmhouse, Kristen is institutionalised. Where she begins to be terrorised by the ghost of a mysteriously disappeared patient.

Directed by John Carpenter and starring  Amber Heard (Drive Angry, Justice League)Mamie Gummer (Side Effects, Get Ready for Ricki)Danielle Panabaker (The Flash, Friday the 13th), Laura-Leigh Claire (Gossip Girl, We’re the Millers), Lyndsy Fonseca (Agent Carter, Kick-Ass), Mika Boorem (Blue Crush, Good Day for It),  Jared Harris (The Terror, The Crown).

The Ward Review Conclusion

I would watch it again – I wasn’t expecting that ending, even though I’m sure I should have seen it coming. And the twist wasn’t expected either. I got lulled into a false sense of knowing what was going to happen.

4.5 stars

When to watch it: When you want a little 80’s horror movie nostalgia but have seen them all so many times before already.

What to watch it with: Whatever you like, but make sure you finish it by the time you’re two thirds in. Or you’re just going to forget about it and perhaps end up wearing it.
