You know me, I love an Eli Roth movie. So I couldn’t resist sitting down to watch Borderlands on Netflix. And it just felt like playing. You know, like when you were a kid and you and your friends got together and just made up an entire game on your own -created the characters (usually based on characters you’d seen on TV) and the scenario and all that stuff and just went for it. That’s what it felt like, like playing, and I loved it!

Playtime!: Borderlands is the kind of film you can walk into with no expectations and still find yourself grinning at the colour, movement, and the sheer weirdness of it all. The outfits, the characters, the vehicles, and even the buildings all made it feel like a world built by people having fun. And maybe that’s why it worked for me. It reminded me of being a kid, making up games with friends, everyone choosing a role, defining a character, throwing ourselves into some imagined planet or desert or forest and seeing what story emerged from the chaos. This movie has that same energy, loud, collaborative, a little ridiculous, and absolutely committed to its own world. It feels like play. And sometimes that’s exactly what a film should feel like.
