Poker Face, The Last of Us, Nutella | KT Blog

For once I got to watch a show right when it started (here in the UK), and Poker Face is definitely a good one. But as per usual, I’ve just finished The Last of Us -way after everyone else- and I’ve gotta say, that was rather good too, although not great. What can I say, I’ve updated my subscriptions to some services and am playing catch up on some shows (I watched House of Dragon too, finally) so if you have any recommendations please let me know. What have you seen recently that you thought was great and just need to recommend to others?

And yeah, there’s spoilers ahead 🙂

Poker Face

First off, Natasha Lyonne, from Russian Doll, is outstanding (apparently she’s been in some other stuff like Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and American Pie -which I cannot wrap my head around, I’m going to have to rewatch that to jog the memory). Then the series is filled with other faces you’re bound to recognise from something. Each new episode has a whole new set of characters -except for Natasha, who is playing Charlie Cale. There’s also Adrien Brody (Grand Budapest Hotel, Backtrack) playing an awkward mob boss’ (do we call them mob bosses in Vegas when they own lots of casinos and do dodgy stuff?) son who’s running the casino and trying to prove himself to daddy. Working as his head of security is Benjamin Bratt (Doctor Strange, Dead for a Dollar) as Cliff Legrand, and being the good little right-hand man. Then we’ve got Hong Chau (The Menu, The Night Agent), who’s just brilliant as Charlie’s reluctant saviour. And I’m only two episodes in! Still to come is Ron Perlman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Chloë Sevigny, and Nick Nolte. What I’m saying is, Damn, this show is packed!

Charlie has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying. She hits the road with her Plymouth Barracuda and with every stop encounters a new cast of characters and strange crimes she can’t help but investigate and solve.

The Last Of Us

I did not know this series was based on a video game until my kid pointed it out about halfway through the series. But still, what’s that got to do with it right? I don’t have to have played the game to watch it. Anyways, this was one of those shows that everyone watched way before me and told me about it and said I had to watch it, so I did finally. And, well, it’s pretty good but I’m not a fan of series that jump about through different characters’ back stories. Ending one episode on a cliffhanger and then going back ten years to explain the conclusion to the cliffhanger is a bit of a mood killer. That’s not to say those episodes weren’t good, they were, they just didn’t fit. It’s like going on a road trip and stopping at every roadside diner, truck stop, village, to sample the chips.

Ah, the Food Portion -Nutella

Someone recently gifted me a very large jar of Nutella. And as I was wondering how I would eat it, what delicious things I could spread it on, it occurred to me that all I needed was breadsticks. And so, giant choc’n’dip happened!

Would do it again!

There’s no need for me to describe the messy enjoyment. You already have it pictured in your head. You’re an adult, you’re allowed to do these things now. Go forth and c(h)onquer!
