Ghosts with a Splash
Based on the novel, Cold Moon over Babylon, by the late Michael McDowell. (Writer of Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas.) The movie begins in a sleepy southern town with the Larkin family. Who suffer first one terrible tragedy and are about to endure another. Traffic lights blink an eerie warning, a ghostly visage prowls the streets, and graves erupt from the ground in the local cemetery. Beneath the murky surface of the river, a shifting, human-like shape slowly takes form; ready to seek a terrible vengeance.
Directed by Griff Furst (Banshee, The Magnificent Seven, Starve), and starring Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises, Shooter (Series)), Christopher Lloyd (Yes, Doc from Back to the Future!), Robbie Kay (Sleepy Hollow, Heroes Reborn), Candy Clark (Twin Peaks, Zodiac), Rachele Brooke Smith (The Nice Guys, Scream Queens), and Frank Whaley (Luke Cage, Bull, Elementary, Gotham, Pulp Fiction).
The Water Ghost is Creepy
This movie kept shifting and keeping me guessing. Cold Moon has it’s fair share of screams, creepy looking spectres (reminiscent of Beetlejuice), and surprises. I’m trying really hard not to give too much away here guys! I thought the story was a simple girl gone missing at first but as it went on things just kept getting more twisty.
Cold Moon Review Conclusion
I would definitely watch it again – I really enjoyed Cold Moon. Reminiscent of early ’90’s late ’80’s movies but with a new sheen, this film would be great for a Halloween movie marathon. And you’ll be able to see it in theatres and VOD from October 6th.
