10 Cloverfield Lane stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr. And Directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Waking up in a bunker after getting into a car accident is the least of Michelle’s problems. And the two men holed up with her tell her the world was hit by a chemical attack. Or Aliens maybe. But either way, it’s not safe to go outside. Which, of course, means that all she wants to do is get out.
I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when I saw the trailers for this film. I’d seen the first one and it was clear it was taking a totally different track. And still it maintained that being about the people experiencing events rather than about the aliens themselves.
With a seriously well stocked bunker they could have lasted quite a while in there. But keeping things from the people you’re locked in with rarely works. Although it seems like he had quite a bit to keep secret. Enough to keep you guessing, wondering where the movie was going. The ebb and flow of trust kept it intriguing. And when you eventually did get to the Aliens you felt like he’d done the right thing – maybe. At least she was still alive, right?
10 Cloverfield Lane Review Conclusion
I’ll watch it again – I’ve been looking forward to seeing this for a while and I wasn’t disappointed. Whilst a little confusing at the start I felt this reflected the characters state of confusion over what had happened rather than made it difficult to watch. The slow build worked well. I really enjoyed it.
