TV Drama Taboo Review | Episode One | #TabooFX

Did you watch it?

A historical drama made by Fox and the BBC was a little unexpected. But an exciting thought all the same. In the US it’s being shown on Fox and in the UK on the BBC. So on Saturday I curled up on the sofa, coffee at the ready, and flicked on the rarely watched BBC for the TV Drama Taboo.

The beginning gave nothing away. The boat, the horse, the slodging through the mud. It wasn’t until the funeral that you began to get a trickling sensation of knowledge and suspicion through the brain. A warily suspicious grin crosses your face as you begin to understand a little of what is going on. (Unfortunately, before the show got to this point it had already lost my mother who switched over to something else. She’s a big BBC drama fan and I can’t help wonder how many Downton Abbey, Poldark, watchers did the same).

It had an almost Game of Thrones feel to it I thought, one or two similar themes, and interesting camera angles. It had the historical aspect I would expect from a BBC drama and the darkness of an intense Fox drama. For me, it was an excellent combination. Its a show you need to pay attention to, so you catch the smaller details and snippets of information I’m sure will lead to something big later on.

The idea that there are two directors taking each half of the show intrigues me. And I wonder how this will change the feel, if at all.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this show develops. And whilst it’s been promoted as a stand alone mini series, I’ve heard a rumor there could be a further series. It was only a rumor though, a whisper on the winds of the internet. A call across the ocean.

Familiar & Unexpected Faces

The show has a number of familiar faces turning up in unexpected places – I wonder how many more will appear as the show goes on?
