Everyone’s talking about You on Netflix, or at least they were last week when it finally arrived. I really feel like I’ve waited a long time to see this series and that it was promised before Christmas and then delayed. Heralded as a psychological thriller with an aspiring writer being stalked and manipulated I was really looking forward to this series.

Based on the best selling novel by Caroline Kepnes, about a bookstore clerk who crosses paths with an aspiring writer and uses his internet savvy to learn all he can about her and get close to her. And anyone who might get in the way of his desires is swiftly dealt with.
Starring Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl, Easy A), Elizabeth Lail (Once Upon A Time, The Blacklist), Luca Padovan (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Super Wings!), Zach Cherry (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Search Party), Nicole Kang (ABC-Disney Discovers: New York Talent Showcase), and Kathryn Gallagher (Happy Pills, Senioritis).
You Review Conclusion
I would watch it again – I enjoyed You on Netflix, it was a little different, cautious at giving you too many details in one go and then sliding things in a little under the radar. It feels like a rom-com but it’s got a dark twist and that’s how I like them.
There is a slight feel of American Psycho to the way he talks (particularly noticeable in the trailer and probably deliberate), and Penn Badgley does an amazing job of portraying Joe. Giving him a sort of ‘kind’ creepiness, like, he’s creepy but not in an offputting way. Like, he’s kinda sweet…what I’m trying to say is, he seems like a nice guy, even though he’s doing all this stalker stuff. There are no triggers. There’s nothing that really makes you go ‘uh oh, this is a bad guy’ even when he’s blatantly doing something bad.
The one thing that I felt let it down was the ending, without giving anything away for those who haven’t seen it yet, it was the kind of ending I’d expect from a book to keep the suspense going from the previous chapter (and yes, I know it’s based on a book) but I felt it just didn’t work quite right on screen, as if they’d skipped a scene they could have shown. Still, a good watch. I would probably consider watching a second series but I don’t really think it’s needed.

There’s a lot of coffee and doughnuts in this one, not to mention pancakes and occasionally party food! So you might find you want to snack, perhaps schedule supper whilst you watch this one -assuming you’re going to watch one episode at a time that is and not binge-watch
