An intriguing movie, Side Effects is one of those I always meant to watch but never got around to. Currently on Amazon Prime, I figured it was time and with such an interesting cast you know it’s gonna be good but there was just something that felt familiar about it. As if I’d seen it before. Still, I grabbed a coffee and a slice of the rather delicious cake I made and sat down to watch -and whether I’d seen it before or not, I rather enjoyed it.

After her husband gets out of prison and they’re trying to reestablish their lives together, get back to where they were before he went in, she is prescribed a new trial drug by her psychiatrist. Suffering from anxiety and not getting along with other medications the new drug seems like the ideal choice. Until the side effects start to emerge. It isn’t long before things start to go badly wrong and the psychiatrist’s life starts to fall apart as he tries to make sense of what’s going on.
Starring Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, Carol), Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Channing Tatum (White House Down, Magic Mike), David Costabile (Billions, Suits), and Catherine Zeta-Jones (Rock of Ages, Ocean’s Twelve).
Side Effects Review Conclusion
I really felt like I’d seen this before:- There was something about the story that felt so familiar but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. But that’s beside the point, this was an enjoyable film with intriguing characters. Twists that were often unexpected and take the story in a new direction. It’s not heart-racingly fast but it keeps you watching and wondering and just when you think he’s figured it out it all turns around again. Will no one listen?

Maybe a stir fry and a nice glass of milk might be ideal for eating whilst watching this.
