Merry Christmas & Happy New Year | KT Yearly Roundup

Well, it’s been a year, hasn’t it? We’ve had loads of new horror and plenty of conversations about them and plenty still to come. New scripts, remakes, and new faces have filled our screens with a huge variety of exciting prospects and the horror genre seems to be on a roll that I hope continues into 2020.

Horror Movies 2019

  • IT Chapter Two
  • Us
  • 3 from hell
  • Escape Room
  • Velvet Buzzsaw
  • Happy Death Day 2U
  • Pet Sematary
  • The Silence
  • The Curse of La Llorona
  • Brightburn
  • Ma
  • Midsommer
  • 47 Metres Down: Uncaged
  • Ready or Not
  • In the Tall Grass
  • The Lighthouse
  • Eli
  • Zombieland: Double Tap
  • Countdown
  • Doctor Sleep
  • Black Christmas
  • Rabid

And that’s not even all of the movies we’ve seen this year. Plus those still to come like The Grudge. It’s been an amazing year for horror and options and choices for everyone. And then there’s been the shows, including new seasons of our favourites and continuations of series we thought had ended for good. Sometimes fans have the power to resurrect shows the studios have given up on.

Horror Shows 2019

  • American Horror Story
  • Carnival Row
  • Swamp Thing
  • Castle Rock
  • The Terror
  • The Haunting of Hill House
  • The Mist
  • Stranger Things
  • Daybreak
  • Lucifer
  • Legacies
  • The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
  • iZombie
  • Mindhunter
  • Supernatural
  • Love, Death, and Robots
  • NOS4A2

And again, this list is not all-inclusive. The trouble is, a lot of the shows are available on only one TV channel or streaming service which means that some of us have to wait and hope that they turn up on one of the ones we’re actually paying for and not having to pay for so many different services.

And that’s been another big thing this year

Some of the bigger players (and some not so big) have been collecting their own works and creating new programs and films for their own streaming services -which of course seem reasonably priced until you’re adding it on to all your other services. And this, I think, is going to cause problems for those who want to keep up with all the new shows in the future. There will be so many we never get to see, simply because we’re paying for Netflix and NowTV and not Disney Plus and Brit Box.

And that’s on top of whatever you pay for your regular TV service and the forever rising prices of going to the movies because you just can’t wait for the digital download. I don’t know about you but I’m starting to wonder just how exactly this is going to play out, it seems to me, that over time, they’re going to lose money by doing it this way and end up having to offer packages for multiple services that offer people a discount just to get the views.
