Mayfair Witches, Christmas Movies, A Kiss to Die For | KT Blog

I know last year I did blogmass, watching tons of movies (mostly Christmas Movies) and reviewing them daily, but I don’t have the time to watch that many movies and review them (the side hustle day job is keeping me awfully busy). So, this year’s Christmas offering is just a little different. I’ll blog as usual, weekly, and when I can I’ll post additional content through the week.

That cute little bookmark there is my design for something I’m working on, and it also links in to the next novel in the Noctisbellum series.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches

I started watching this yesterday and am loving it. I don’t think it’s quite as dark as I imagined it in my head when I was reading the novel but it’s been so long since I read the novel I’m not comparing much at all and just enjoying the series for what it gives me.

Starring Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch, Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief) as Rowan Fielding, their heir to the family of witches. Tongayi Chirisa (iZombie, American Horror Story) as Ciprien Grieve with his own set of abilities, he’s tasked with keeping Rowan safe. Jack Huston (Manhunt: Unabomber, Fargo) as the rather gorgeous Lasher. Harry Hamlin (Mad Men, Flowers in the Attic: The Origin) as Cortland Mayfair. Hannah Alline (Dead by Midnight, Adult Swim Yule Log) as Suzanne. And Beth Grant (Speed, Donnie Darko) as Carlotta Mayfair.

Follows a neurosurgeon who discovers she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. She must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.

Christmas Movies

I got stuck into the Christmas movies early this year, giving in to temptation at the back end of November when I was curled up on the sofa with Covid. I felt awful and yet my brain still insisted it was entertained. Christmas movies seemed like the easiest solution. So, here are some of the Christmas movies I’ve watched so far (I’ve watched a lot, these are just the ones I can remember the names of):

  • Candy Cane Lane -a fun movie with a few good laughs. Worth a watch if you haven’t already.
  • Violent Night -this was so much better than I was expecting, really enjoyed it from the drunken beginning to the violent end.
  • Catering Christmas -an easy watch in the Hallmark style
  • Noel -watched this last year and just had to watch it again. I think I’d watch Anna Kendrick in just about anything (a really good movie of hers, if you haven’t seen it, is Mr. Right).
  • A Boy Called Christmas -an interesting take on the origin of Santa. And an enjoyable movie to watch with the kids.
  • B&B Merry -Another Hallmark style one.
  • Falling for Christmas -it’s that one with Lindsay Lohan (not a terrible watch)
  • Godmothered -I couldn’t resist watching this one again. It’s such a good movie.

There will definitely be more Christmas movie watching, but I haven’t given in and put Hallmark on just yet. That would mean swapping some cables and waiting for the box to boot up and update, but I’m sure I’ll get around to it, eventually. So, what about you? Have you seen anything you think I should watch?

A Kiss to Die for

This is the pulp fiction horror hallmark-style Christmas story I’m working on. But, I only have Saturdays available to work on it and I didn’t get any done whilst I had Covid, so if it’s finished in time for Christmas it’ll be a miracle.

A Kiss to Die for is a pulp fiction horror hallmark style story that follows Lila, a bookstore owner who inherits a bookshop in a small town where a cult worships a dark entity in the woods. When a storm traps her and a handsome detective who is secretly investigating a series of murders, they must uncover the truth behind the town’s secrets and escape before they become the next victims of a ritual sacrifice on Christmas eve.

Or something like that!

I’m enjoying writing it and finding out what happens next. There is a plot -since I am mixing three styles together, I had no choice but to plot it- but I’m also pantsing it and adapting as I go too. I’ll probably publish it for free or with a pay what you like style.

@authorktmcqueen

I had a thought about crossing a Hallmark Christmas movie with a horror movie in a pulp fiction book style -I’ve written about 3k of it today, it’s plotted, but who knows if I’ll get it finished #horrorblogger #blogger #writing #pulpfiction #pulpfictionbooks
