September Roundup

With Lucifer, American Horror Story, and The Strain all starting this month, we’ve had a lot going on in TV land for horror. In movie land we’ve had the release of 31, The Conjuring 2, The Darkness, and a little bit of bad news. So as it’s the end of the month; I’ve done a roundup of what’s happened, what’s been released, and what’s in store for October.

TV Land: Lucifer, American Horror Story, The Strain

Lucifer

Season 2 of Lucifer started this month -Yay!. In episode one, Lucifer thinks he sees his mother everywhere. Since she escaped from Hell she needs a body to inhabit. And he’s certain he’ll find her through his current case with the detective. It’s almost all he can think about. Available on Amazon Prime Video – a New Episode Every Tuesday.

American Horror Story Season 6

Well it’s been an interesting beginning and there’s the promise of a big twist half way through the season. But so far we have a terrified couple who think a local family, who didn’t win the house in the auction, are behind everything that’s happening. Again this is one of the shows that we get after viewers in America, so at the writing of this I’ve seen two episodes. You may already know more than me! I hate that you might know more than me. Fridays at 10pm on Fox in the UK.

The Strain

Almost didn’t even notice this started but some kind, thoughtful person remembered to shout it very loudly at me just before the first episode. Season 3 finds the group divided, each are engrossed in their own survival. But slowly they are starting to come back together, and with the beheading of the Master things might be looking up. The down side is we’ve just learnt that The Strain will end after Season 4. Friday’s at 9PM on W in the UK.

The best of the rest

The run up to Halloween always brings a few good TV shows, perfect for curling up on a dark night to watch. But we’re still only in September so we’ve got (in the UK):

  • Wolf Creek on Fox
  • Luke Cage begins on Netflix on September 30th
  • Hunter on SyFy
  • From Dusk Till Dawn Season 3 on Netflix.
  • Aquarious Season 2 on Sky Atlantic
  • Bitten Season 2 on SyFy

Movie Land: 31, The Conjuring 2, The Darkness

31

31 was released this month, and is available on Amazon video to rent. 31 is the story of five carnival employees being kidnapped and held hostage in a remote industrial hell. Set in 1976.

The Conjuring 2

This is the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren in a terrifying investigation in a home in North London. Where they try to help a single mother raising her four children in a house plagued with spirits. The story is based on the real life events which occurred in the families home in the 1970’s. The story featured in the Daily mail and garnered quite some attention. A number of psychical investigators and reporters visited and studied the phenomenon, including the Warrens. The film also uses some of the original recordings.

The Darkness on DVD

This movie stars Kevin Bacon as the father of a family returning from a Grand Canyon Vacation. They soon discover that they have awakened an ancient evil when it begins to haunt them.

Things we’ve learnt about movie land

Two movies have had their release dates changed, one movie has been shut down, and there’s going to be another John Wick (WooHoo!). Okay I know it’s not technically horror but damn Keanu looks good in that suit.

Stephen Spielberg pulls the plug on Haunted – at least for the time being. This is said to be because of script rewrites not being in alignment with what the studio originally signed up for.

The horror movie Rings has had it’s release date set back again, into February 2017. It had been expected to be released in October.

Friday the 13th has also had it’s release date set back to October 13th 2017.

Upcoming for October

Even more TV shows begin in October, including Westworld, and Scream Queens – please note for those in the States, I’m in the UK, we rarely get things before you or even at the same time (except Sherlock 🙂 ) so don’t be telling me any spoilers.

October finally lets us buy Neon Demon on DVD, as well as bringing us the new TV show imagining of Van Helsing on SyFy.

Also in the UK on TV:

  • Season 2 of Humans – loved the first series, in particular the genius way it was advertised as a new product rather than a TV show
  • Ash Vs Evil Dead Season 2 on Virgin Media On Demand
  • Scream Queens Season 2 on E4
  • Westworld Season 1 on Sky Atlantic  -4th October 9pm
  • Z Nation Season 3 on Pick TV – 11th October 10pm
  • The Exorcist Season 1 on SyFy -19 October at 9pm
  • Black Mirror Season 3 on Netflix -21st October
  • The Walking Dead Season 7 on Fox -24th October at 9pm

And if I’ve missed anything please let me know – I have to draw out my TV schedule so I know which night I’m watching what 🙂
