Whilst I feel like this was a somewhat simple story-line, it did hold a few twists and turns I wasn’t entirely expecting. I didn’t immediately recognize Ewan MacGregor, which, in my opinion, is a good thing. Not because I dislike Ewan -far from it- but it takes good acting (and good wardrobe and makeup sometimes) to make the viewer see the character first and not the actor. Loved the pairing of Natalie Portman and Joel Edgerton.
In terms of violence, there is a smattering throughout the film as well as suggested violence, and one particular onslaught during the attack on the property. Shootings and explosions resulted in burning men and gunshot wounds. There was blood, it wasn’t excessive, but there because it needed to be.
I think there were moments where the grey horse and the bay didn’t like each other. And whilst the ending was nice, I’m not sure it was entirely necessary. However, I did enjoy it and I will be watching it again. (Click on the image below to find it on amazon video.)
Jane Got a Gun Review Conclusion
I’d watch it again – I enjoyed Jane Got a Gun. It was one of those movies that’s well acted and you can believe both the story and the setting. Despite not being a horror, this was a good, gritty, violent in places, Western with a slight twist in the tail.
