A Horror Lovers Guide to Cookbooks
With the holiday season fast approaching it’s not unusual to reach for a cookbook when you’re landed with the whole family visiting. Jamie Oliver, Tom Kerridge, The Fabulous Baker Brothers, are all good options. But if, like me, you like to try to impress with something a little fancier, a little unusual, perhaps even a little questionable, you could try one of these delightful horror cooking options.
Feeding Hannibal: A Connoisseurs Cookbook
This is a beautiful book with images and recipes from the show for a wide variety of unusual ingredients -you remember the lungs right?
Not all of the ingredients are easy to get. But there are a fair number of recipes, with easy to obtain ingredients, that look stunning. Although you may need a few practice sessions before getting them exactly right.
True Blood: Eats, Drinks, and Bites from Bon Temps
A wide range of starters, mains, deserts, and drinks fill the pages of this book. With imagery from the show and recipes you’ll recognise this book has a party in the front and Grandma’s kitchen in the back. Well, not exactly.
But you have everything from the recipe for True Blood to Sloppy Jason’s (which are amazing by the way) to Sookie’s Glazed Fresh Strawberry Pie (another of my favourites).
The Walking Dead: The Official Cookbook and Survival Guide
Now if you’re thinking that the holidays are going to be more of a survival situation you might want to consider this cookbook.
Filled with tips on surviving, recipes featured in the show, and how to find food by foraging when you’re low on supplies, this could be the book you need to make it to New Years. But after that, all bets are off.
Necronomicon Cookbook
Nom, nom, nom! Learn to cast spells using moonshine and preserve souls with home cooking. This book should cover all your alcohol and comfort food needs to sooth the souls of those who grumble at the slightest hint of joy.
If you have the kind of family who likes a fight, turn into demons the second anyone threatens their choice of TV viewing, or are certain that one of them might actually be possessed, this could be the book that saves your Christmas.
The Homicidal Homemaker
Or if you prefer follow along cooking shows you can find a variety of ghoulish treats on The Homicidal Homemaker website and YouTube channel.
