I never thought it would happen to me, but it did. You’d think if anything was going to keep creepy crawlies away it would be the garlic dip. But alas, there was one squished right on the rim of the pot. Naturally, I didn’t scream and fling it aside -after all we’ve been in this situation numerous times before, in the movies…
Lost Boys
This was the first one that sprang to mind. Those maggots writhing in the box.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Whilst not technically in the food there are definitely some bugs and creepy crawlies on the menu.
Arachnophobia
Yup, there’s a death scene from eating popcorn. Not what you want to see whilst tucking into your own popcorn as you watch the movie, but that was probably the point.
Ghost Ship
Always liked this movie, and I love the way they hold off from showing them they’re eating maggots, even though you know it’s going to happen.
Creepy Crawlies in Movies tend to stick in the mind
I don’t know about you but whenever I see something like this in the movies it continues to freak me out whenever I eat what they were eating. Sure, over time, the fear of accidentally eating a spoonful of maggots when I get my Chinese eases and egg flied lice is once again just a joke term. But when you order take away and actually get a bug (although not a maggot) all those horrible scenes come racing back. And you know that the next time you see one it’s going to creep you out even more. Because now you’re one of the people who know just what it’s like to find a bug in your dinner.
