Women in the Horror Industry
Whether writing books, directing movies, or acting, wicked women of horror deserve to be recognized. As do their male counterparts. The way we each look at the world, and translate that into our work is fascinating. So, in a short series (probably) I present to you – Wicked Women of Horror Wednesday!
In the Spotlight | Wicked Women of Horror: The Soska Sisters

American Mary isn’t the only film they’ve directed (or cool thing they’ve done): Their first movie was ‘Dead Hooker in a Trunk’. See No Evil 2. A segment in ABCs of Death 2 – T is for Torture Porn. Vendetta (an action movie). Bob. The TV show Hellavator -of which there will very soon be a second season (I hope we get to see it in the UK). Dead Hooker in a Trunk was their final project at film school which they produced and starred in on a budget of $2500. Despite having the project initially pulled when the funding was misappropriated. With training in martial arts and stunt work Jen and Sylvia have one hell of a skill set. They’re also advocates of actors doing their own stunts where appropriate.
Hellevator
Inspired by true crime stories, each specially-themed episode will emulate a grisly scene invoked by one of the “Seven Deadly Sins” (Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Wrath, Greed, and Sloth). Psychological terror and torment await, at the hands of the Soska Twins, who work in tandem to torture players as they struggle to remain sane and keep in mind, “it’s just a game.” – http://www.gsntv.com/show/hellevator/about/
Not a game for the feint hearted then…A game show designed to terrify and torture the contestants as they try to complete challenges and make it to the end of the slaughterhouse to win the grand prize.
Hellevator begins on Friday the 7th of October in the US – no word yet as to whether we’ll be seeing it in the UK, and unfortunately, the first season is not currently available on Netflix. But if it happens I’ll be sure to let you know 🙂
