Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin met Percy Shelley, when she was just sixteen and he was twenty-one, whilst staying with her father’s friend. It wasn’t long before a relationship blossomed and led her down a path of learning and experiences that resulted in her creation of the monster Frankenstein.

Starring Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody, Eastenders), Elle Fanning (Neon Demon, Super 8),  Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones, Cyberbully), Bel Powley (A Royal Night Out, Detour), Tom Sturridge (Far From The Madding Crowd, On The Road), and Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Jupiter Ascending).

Mary Shelley Review Conclusion

I would watch it again – An enjoyable film that took you through Mary Shelley’s life rather fast. It is, of course, difficult to fit an entire person’s life into the length of a film and so this small irritation is forgivable since so many things happened to help create the book. It was particularly fun to see who and where she encountered other writers and how they reacted to her as a woman writer. Mary Shelley gives an interesting look into the times and inspirations that went into creating her monster.

4 Stars

You’re going to want a good hot drink, perhaps with a little brandy in to warm you up. A good, thick, pork and dripping sandwich or a bowl of stew and crusty bread wouldn’t go amiss either.
