Hickok – Legendary Lawman & Gunslinger | KT Review

So, despite it being Halloween month I just can’t stay away from them westerns. Hickok has landed on Netflix and stars Luke Hemsworth, which means it’s just begging to be watched. And up pops a name I haven’t heard in a long while, not since I was a teenager reading about Ol’ Devil Hardin’s boys.  It’s violent, gritty, and more than a little bloody. With its fair share of slow walking down the middle of the street and gnarly old western lines.

No one can run forever, son.

Hickok

Tasked with taming the wildest town in the west, Wild Bill Hickock delivers his own brand of frontier justice as his reputation as the fastest draw in the west is put to the test.

Starring Luke Hemsworth (Westworld, Thor: Ragnarok), Kris Kristofferson (Texas Rising, Blade), Trace Adkins (Deepwater Horizon, The Lincoln Lawyer), Bruce Dern (The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained), Cameron Richardson (Harper’s Island, Supercross), and Kaiwi Lyman (American Horror Story, American Violence).

Hickok

Hickok Review Conclusion

I might watch it again – Now, the filming feels a little Sunday afternoon with only five channels but if you can get past that I reckon you’ve got a half-decent watch. And you gotta let the historical inconsistencies go or that’s all you’ll see. The story is hampered by the cliched western lines and stilted flow but it is there and there are a few twists to keep it interesting. And since it’s not a historically accurate film, if that scene with the woman and child on the train had been earlier there could have been some real action as Hickok cleaned up the town once and for all.

3 Stars

This is a warm Sunday afternoon watch when there’s not much on, you’re stuffed from dinner, and the kids are finally playing without fighting just on the edges of your hearing. And if you don’t have Netflix you can grab it on DVD from Amazon here
