Hereditary -Well, I was not expecting that! | KT Review

Hereditary is now available on Amazon Prime and is a horror story of a family subjected to grief, not once but twice. First a Grandmother, then a Daughter. But those deaths have a sinister undercurrent that sends their lives into turmoil. What would you do to talk to those who had passed on?

Hereditary on Amazon Prime

When the family loses their matriarch, her daughter Annie, Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine, Krampus), tries to console her own daughter, Milly Shapiro, who is grieving for the loss, even though her own feelings towards her mother are confusing. But as time marches on sinister secrets of their inherited past start to invade their lives and come to light. Annie’s husband, Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects, Maniac), and son, Alex Wolff (My Friend Dahmer, Patriots Day) are drawn into the chaotic reasonings of Annie. Until the truth starts to come out.

Hereditary Review Conclusion

I might watch it again but it’s highly unlikely:– Like The Quiet Place this is, unfortunately, another horror movie that just didn’t do it for me. Maybe it’s the family aspect that’s just not working for me in these films. Although I did enjoy Mom and Dad, so, who knows.

It has a few good gory scenes but they’re interspersed with these droopy family scenes. And at the end, I still felt like I hadn’t got it. The acting was great, I loved the way it was shot and I constantly felt like I had no idea what the house was like -which seemed deliberate. But the pace, the story, and the character connections felt lacking.

3.5 Stars

I’d avoid rice or chocolate cake, but you might be alright with a nice chicken dinner. Maybe a glass of wine or two.
