John Wick | The 89th Academy Awards | The iHorror Awards | February Roundup

February Roundup

Are we really in February already? I can’t believe it’s time for the Academy Awards or the much anticipated iHorror Awards (did you vote yet?). With shows like Taboo finishing this month and Legion starting it’s been a bit of a whirlwind.

TV Land: Legion, The Santa Clarita Diet, Walking Dead

Whether it’s Netflix, NowTV, Amazon, or regular TV there’s something for everyone. And you can find even more by visiting GeekTown (like the shows I haven’t mentioned).

Legion – Fox, Thursdays at 9pm

The story of a man whose sister believes he has schizophrenia and who has been institutionalised and medicated. But he, in fact, has numerous gifts he doesn’t fully control or understand. Based on the Marvel Comic of the same name this is the story of a mutant that might just be the most powerful yet. Some even suggest he is a God.

The Santa Clarita Diet – Netflix

Drew Barrymore’s attempts at hunting down her prey are hilarious. From start to finish this show was laugh till you snort worthy and twisted. Just my cup of tea!

The Walking Dead – Fox, Mondays at 9pm

Despite my disappointment at the first half of this season I feel like the show is starting to pick up. I’m excited to know what’s going to happen next, whether Carol will be dragged back into the fight, whether the new allies are going to turn out to be the new enemies, and whether they can win against Negan.

Also, I just won a pillowcase from NowTV with Rick’s face on it 🙂 I’ll share a pic when it arrives 🙂

Grimm – W, Tuesdays at 9pm

So happy the new season has begun; so sad it’s the last one. I’ve loved this show from start to finish, friends became enemies, enemies became friends, it’s been a whirlwind of story-lines. And so far this season we’re largely focused on what Renard is going to do and a stick.

The Magicians – 5STAR, Tuesdays at 9pm

Still hating the moths but loving the show. It’s been a while since I read the books so I’m not waiting for specific things to happen, which makes it even more fun to watch. Filary is stunning as they make their way through it but there was never going to be any real chance they could all stay was there?

The best of the rest

February feels like September right now. Usually I expect the best of the shows to begin in the autumn so all these new shows starting this month has me writing out a new personalised TV guide so I don’t miss anything. And not everything can be fit in through the three hours of TV I allow myself on a night. The rest has to be binge watched at the weekend.

  • Falling Water – Amazon
  • Ghost Adventures – Really, Fridays at 9pm
  • Black Sails Season 3 – History, Tuesdays 10pm
  • Arrow – Sky1, Thursdays at 9pm
  • Emerald City – 5STAR, Wednesdays at 9pm
  • Sleepy Hollow – SyFy, Wednesdays at 9pm
  • Person of Interest -final series. 5USA, Wednesdays at 9pm
  • Taken – TV Series based off the films. Netflix, Feb 28th

Movie Land: John Wick Chapter 2, A Cure for Wellness

John Wick Chapter 2 – Feb 17th

*sigh* just gonna press replay, be with you in a sec…

A Cure for Wellness – Feb 24th

A remote wellness centre in the Swiss Alps has a series of very unusual treatments. When he is sent to the retreat, an ambitious young executive begins to suspect everything is not as it seems.

News: 89th Academy Awards, iHorror Awards,

With the 89th Academy Awards at the end of the month and voting for the iHorror Awards ongoing it’s an exciting month for movies. The Academy Awards have some interesting nominations, although very few could be considered horror. I’m interested to see how Doctor Strange and Hell or High Water do. And of course, although I’m loath to admit it, I do enjoy seeing what the guests & nominees are wearing and those brief, excitable interviews they do. However, I look forward to the iHorror awards far more and can’t wait for the days when it too has a massive party where horror nominees dress up and accept their awards. Can you imagine the fun that would be?

The iHorror awards are now in their third year and celebrate those in the horror industry who have contributed to the genre. Voting ends on March 18th so you still have time to cast yours – and show those who have made you scream/jump/puke/laugh histericallly/make a move some love. Cast your votes here.

Upcoming for March

There are a few interesting looking movies set for release in March, but lets bare in mind that the release date for some of these is unknown for the UK. Which means, thanks to the internet, we may get to see all the trailers, posters, adverts, reviews but not necessarily the movie:

  • Kong:Skull Island – March 10th
  • Logan – March 3rd
  • Ghost in the Shell – March 31st
  • Brimstone – UK release date unknown
  • The Belko Experiment – UK release date unkonn
  • The Blackcoat’s Daughter – Uk release date unknown
  • The Love Witch – March 10th
  • Get Out – March 17th

Also in the UK on TV:

  • Vampire Diaries – Final Season
  • Leathal Weapon TV Series – ITV, 3rd March, 10pm
  • Big Little Lies – Sky Atlantic, 13th March
  • Iron Fist – Netflix, March 17th

Starting to think I should do downloadable TV guides with the best shows on (and their alternative days and times)…or maybe an app…
