Not everyone wants the Hallmark flavour Christmas movies where the hero goes back to their hometown after some horrid mishap, thinking all is lost, and meets some other gorgeous but slightly damaged human they will eventually (after a bit of an awkward getting to know you phase) end up together. Some of us want it dark, twisted, messy. So, here are 10 Dark Christmas Movies to sooth your twisted soul.

8. Krampus

What happens when you’re naughty? Well, coal in your stocking is the least of your worries – the Krampus will come and take all the naughty children away. In this movie, the youngest family member turns his back on Christmas and unleashes the wrath of Krampus.

7. Black Christmas – Truly Dark Christmas Horror

It all seems like the dull period just before everyone goes home for Christmas, the anticipation of what’s to come is nothing compared to what happens in this one.

6.  The Snowman

This movie follows Detective Harry Hole as he tries to solve the disappearance of a woman whose scarf is found wrapped around an ominous looking snowman

An anthology of Christmas horror, brings you four stories and William Shatner as a Radio DJ who brings them all together. Krampus, Zombie Elves, Doppelgangers, and possession. Worth checking out.

A humorous British movie, when a father and son have to save Christmas because Santa is on the run.

3. Better Watch Out – Disturbingly Dark Christmas Horror

A babysitter must defend herself and her charge when intruders make themselves known. Not a film for everyone with disturbing moments, so maybe don’t watch it with your family. 

2. Anna and the Apocalypse

If you’re looking for all singing, all dancing, high-school musical style Dark Christmas Movies with Zombies, this one has exactly what you’re looking for. And is currently in the cinema if you’re looking for a horror musical.

Mistaken for Bigfoot during a drunken romp around town in a makeshift gorilla costume it isn’t long before local TV stations are showing up, Bigfoot hunters, and the promise of a tourism boost take over the town.  And all because he came home early and found his wife in a bunny suit getting it on with his BFF in a wolf suit.

A Nightmare Before Christmas, Gremlins, Die Hard – but I was trying to give you a few not so obvious dark Christmas movies that you may not have seen. And there are probably others on here that I’ve never heard of and you’ve seen, loved, watched to death..so what are they and why are they so good?
