Cari Mora – Thomas Harris is Back | KT Review

If you’re a fan of Silence of the Lambs you’ll be happy to know that Thomas Harris is back with Cari Mora, after a break of thirteen years. Stephen King has already read it. How does one get on the pre-release copy lists? Well, no matter, I pre-ordered and devoured the new book just as soon as I could.

Cari Mora review

Cari Mora

So, this is not a Hannibal book. It’s a totally new story that’s filled with the consequences of dark obsession -so, you already know it’s gonna be good. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book, it’s like an itch I can’t scratch yet.

Cari Mori has escaped violence in her own country and now works many jobs, under a shaky Temporary Protected Status in Miami. Beautiful and war-scarred, she catches the eye of Hans-Peter Schneider, who makes a living off other men’s violent fantasies. As he closes in she must make use of her surprising skills to survive. She’s done it before, she’ll do it again.

Thomas Harris

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1940, Thomas Harris started out his career covering crimes and murders for the Associated Press. And in 1975 he wrote his first novel, Black Sunday. Many people encountered Harris for the first time when the movie The Silence of the Lambs came out, although this was not the first movie about Hannibal Lecter. That movie, Manhunter, was based on the first book Red Dragon. You can read more about Thomas Harris here, and I bet you read the whole bio in Hannibal Lector’s voice.

Cari Mora will be released on May 16, 2019

And it’s available from Amazon, Waterstones, and Hive -Amazon is the cheapest for the hardcover. The Kindle edition is £9.99

Cari Mora Review Conclusion

Will there be more? There needs to be more! – Cari is an unusual heroin, having been through so much and determined to live her life on her terms. She would be a little freer if her temporary visa was a permanent one but it doesn’t stop her from doing what she means to do. There was a particular flavour to this book that reminded me of talking to friends whose first language isn’t English but who’d learnt it well and probably out of necessity. Can a book have an accent? After reading Cari Mora, I believe it can.

I enjoyed this read, and feel like we might be seeing more of Cari -could this be another series in the making? I hope so! Shorter than Harris’ previous books, Cari Mora builds slowly at first. Letting you get to know the characters before showing you what they can do and keeps you guessing until the end.
